Swapna and Subrata Roy’s Durgotsav at Sahara Shaher

17 Oct. This is Times of India’s way of “reporting”, if it could be called ‘news’! Or, is it?

As readers, can demand a clarification from the TOI on what basis do they publish – without classifying it as an ad? Or should we simply dub it as the ‘paid news’ which is usually associated with elections in India?

The first ever Durgotsav at Sahara Shaher had people thronging the place for a dekko at the idol of Goddess Durga and the whole Roy family taking part in the puja with zeal. The festive fervour was indeed at its peak at the mini-city which saw Swapna and Subrata Roy playing host to celebs like Sridevi-Boney Kapoor and Bengali film actor Prosenjit Chatterjee and his wife Arpita.

The puja also witnessed several celebrity performances. On the first day danseuse Tanushree Shankar enthralled the audience with her dance ballet, and Sapna Mukherjee sang for the crowds, on the second day Hema Malini’s ballet of Shiv-Parvati and Narkasur Vaddh kept the audience glued to their seats. The audi was packed to capacity on all days, but the excitement to catch a glimpse of Sunil Grover aka Gutthi, and Bharti Singh, among the audience was hard to beat. The two brought the house down with their jokes. Next was Usha Uthup’s melodious rendition of songs old and new.

Sridevi, who had arrived on Sunday, stayed on for the Boron puja the next day.
